Background, Text And Link Colours
When visitors come to your site, they're looking for information, products or services. If your page is unreadable due to poor background, text and link colour choices then your visitors will feel really annoyed and they are off to another site, so you really need to think carefully about the colour choices for your site.
If you want to use white as your background colour, it would be hard to use anything but black text and blue or red as your link colour. For a black background colour, I recommend white as the text colour and your link colour should also be a light colour such as orange, yellow or red for easy readability. Light blue, purple and green text colour is okay too as long as it is bright.
If you choose to use a different colour other than black or white for your background, make sure that your text colour contrasts nicely so that people won't have any difficulty reading the words on your page. This also applies if you want to use graphics for your background, but I don't really recommend a graphic background because it doesn't really give your site a professional appearance.
For my links and visited links colour, I usually like to keep it the same because if the visited links colour is different to the links colour, it will make people guess which colours stand for what. Also, you should always have the same background, text and link colour combinations on every page throughout your site so that your visitors won't get confused and wondering if they are still on your site or a different site.
After you have selected the colours for your background, text and links, check your page by adjusting the brightness and contrast on your screen to many different settings to ensure that you can see the contents on your page clearly. This is important because everybody will have different screen settings and you need to make sure that people can read your page regardless if their screen is bright or dark.
